much improved cutting

By: on 4 September 2018
I have a Huqvarna 236e for two years and it stopped cutting effectively from what I suspect was bar wear. It is my first chainsaw. I purchased a sharpening file and four chains for the original bar. Eventually the bar wore out (after two seasons of cutting seasoned firewood) I learned how to sharpen and probably over-sharpened the original chain and it's replacements. After scanning the forums i cheapened out and used engine oil to lube the chain and I noticed that, although the saw was easier to clean, the engine oil flung off the chain far more and I suspect was not lubricating the bar underside properly. (In my defense it was oil I was never going to use in a diesel car and I was doing it very tough at the time...) The chain was sharp, but as soon as it got into the cut it would just rev out and stop throwing chips, then it started to smoke in the cut. The cut was very crooked and in cutting a six inch limb, I would have to make four cuts to sever the piece. There is very little about bar wear online and the difference between a worn bar and a new bar is very slight in the movement of the chain on the bar (play) I purchased a replacement bar and chain from J&J. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!! Although it is hard to remember the original performance of the saw, I swear this replacement setup cuts better than the original when it was new. It's like having a new, larger capacit saw than the original. I'll still sharpen my own chains, but i am never going to use anything burt proper chain lube again!
