If using a 12V battery, we recommend a deep-cycle battery (also called a ‘leisure’ or ‘deep-draw-down’ battery). These are designed to handle repeated charging and discharging without damaging the battery life.
A car battery (also known as an ‘initial surge battery’) can also be used, but must not be allowed to run too low or it may deteriorate over time.
Note: Most batteries will stop powering your energiser before they are fully flat — typically when they drop below 10.5V.
This energiser has an average current draw of 450mA.
A 12Ah battery will provide approximately 26 hours of use
A 6Ah battery will provide approximately 13 hours of use
Actual runtime will vary depending on fence quality, earthing, and vegetation.
To keep your energiser running at full voltage and output, we recommend connecting it to a solar charger (sold separately). This helps maintain a fully charged battery and ensures consistent fence performance.
Electric fence energisers convert your 12V battery input into high-voltage pulses. If your battery loses 20% of its charge, your fence output also drops by around 20%.
Most energisers will shut off once voltage drops to ~9 volts
Recharge before your battery drops below 10.5 volts to maintain full performance
A solar charger is the best way to keep your battery near full charge
