Battery Usage & Recommendations
If using a 12V battery, we strongly recommend a deep-cycle battery (also called a 'leisure' or 'deep-draw-down' battery). These are designed to be discharged and recharged regularly without damaging battery life.
A car battery (initial surge battery) may also work, but should not be allowed to run too low, or it may degrade over time.
Note: Most batteries will stop powering your energiser before they're fully flat — typically around 10.5V.
Runtime Estimates:
This energiser has an average current draw of 100mA.
A 12Ah battery will provide approximately 120 hours of operation
A 6Ah battery will provide approximately 60 hours of operation
Actual runtime will vary depending on fence condition, load, and vegetation.
Solar Charging Recommendation:
To keep your fence running at maximum voltage and pulse energy, we recommend connecting your battery to a solar panel (sold separately). This helps maintain full charge and ensures consistent performance.
When to Recharge:
Electric fence equalisers are essentially transformers. They take your 12V battery input and step it up to high-voltage pulses.
If your battery loses 20% of its charge, your fence will lose about 20% of its shock power.
Most energisers stop working once the battery voltage drops below ~9 volts.
To maintain fence strength, recharge before your battery drops below 10.5V.
